A short list of the ten most serious matters that invalidate a person's Islam and take them out of the religion. Its stated aim: to warn the Muslim so he is cautious of them and fears falling into them.
Opening line: “Be informed that among the greatest Nullifiers of Islam are ten.” The point is not to declare people out of Islam lightly, but to know the danger lines so you never approach them. 📖 p.16

The Ten NullifiersThe core — learn all ten
- Shirk in the worship of Allah. Associating partners with Allah in worship — including sacrificing to other than Him (e.g. to the jinn or to a grave). “Allah does not forgive that a partner be associated with Him…”
- Setting up intermediaries between oneself and Allah — calling on them, asking their intercession, relying on them. Disbelief “by unanimous agreement.”
- Not holding the polytheists to be disbelievers, or doubting their disbelief, or affirming their way. Disbelief by unanimous agreement.
- Believing guidance other than the Prophet's ﷺ is more complete, or another's judgement is better than his — e.g. preferring the rule of the ṭāghūt over his ﷺ ruling.
- Hating anything the Messenger ﷺ came with — even while acting on it. “That is because they detested what Allah revealed, so He rendered their deeds worthless.”
- Ridiculing anything of Allah's religion, its reward, or its punishment. “Say: was it Allah, His verses and His Messenger you were mocking? …you have disbelieved after your faith.”
- Sorcery / magic — including spells to make one hate (ṣarf) or love (ʿaṭf). Performing it, or being pleased with it, is disbelief. “…they would teach no one until they said: ‘We are only a trial, so do not disbelieve.’”
- Supporting the polytheists against the Muslims. “Whoever of you allies with them is indeed one of them.”
- Believing someone may be free of following the Prophet ﷺ — that a person can be outside his Sharīʿah, as al-Khiḍr was outside the Sharīʿah of Mūsā.
- Turning away from Allah's religion — neither learning it nor acting on it. “Who does more wrong than one reminded of his Lord's verses, then turns away…?”

The Author's Closing RuleThe critical qualification
No difference between the joker, the serious, and the fearful — with respect to committing any of these nullifiers — except the one who is compelled (mukrah). The author adds: “All of these are among the gravest in danger and most frequent, so the Muslim must be cautious of them and fear for himself.” 📖 p.19
